 Yonne - Noyers

gateway to the old town

Another of the "Plus beaux Villages de France", a gem of a place hidden in the Yonne department south of Auxerre
Here we found a virtually unspoilt medieval walled town with ancient half timbered buildings, a few shops and art and craft workshops.

Along the quiet back-streets there were buildings with roofs and windows that looked like they hadn't been touched for centuries

Outside the walls were more narrow lanes with lovingly tended gardens and a tree lined riverside road. Here one of the remaining towers is attractively smartened with the ubiquitous flower-boxes

This is certainly a place to seek out during your wanderings through France
